Carol Vorderman [Presenter]

Best known for greatest asset – Her Brain – Carol Vorderman found fame on the Channel 4 Program “Countdown” with Richard Whitely (Calendar News), before becoming a Mum and Fitness guru to women. With a healthier diet and a change in bad men, Carol Vorderman went on to become “Rear Of The Year” – and just so, too. Enjoy.

What were readers of Maxim thinking about, when they only voted Carol the122nd sexiest woman in the world! I know why I tune in to watchCountdown – and it’s not Richard Whiteley’s dreadful puns!

Carol has had her fair share of critics over the years, for everything from her haircut (one time voted worst celebrity haircut!) to her over-exposure on our TV screens. She also once sparked controversy when she said she found Shakespeare “as dull as dishwater”!

Carol was born on 24th December 1960, in Bedford. Although she’s been adopted by the Welsh since her fame, as her family re-located to Rhyl, North Wales, when she was younger.

She attended the Blessed Edward Jones High School there and afterwards obtained a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, later going on to gain a Masters degree in Civil Engineering.

She belongs to Mensa (and has an IQ of 154!)

Carol first hit our TV screens in 1982 when Countdown was launched as the first programme on Channel Four.

Since her television career began, Carol has gone on to present numerous other shows, mostly involving science and technology, like Tomorrow’s WorldWhat Will They Think of Next, and Tested to Destruction. However one of her more popular programmes has been Better Homes, which first began in 1999, and is still on our screens. It also spawned a spin-off Better Gardens.

Carol has also had columns in The Daily Telegraph and the Daily Mirror.

As well as having a number of books published, such as: How Mathematics Works and Carol Vorderman’s Guide to the Internet, and videos such as guides to maths, and her detox diet.

In recent years her image has changed somewhat from her early days. Although always attractive, she was never considered “sexy” by viewers who tuned in to watch her put the letters and numbers up onCountdown.

The major image revamp came when, a few years ago, Carol took the decision to go on a detox diet, and the change was incredible!

Who can forget her sexy appearance on Parkinson, soon after – all legs and cleavage! I’m surprised Parky could contain himself! Or her in that dress at the BAFTAS?

The new, “sexy” Carol had arrived!

She got married when she was 24 to Chris Mather, who was an naval officer and a former rugby league international player. The marriage only lasted 18 months.

She re-married again in 1990 to Paddy King, a management consultant; they had two children together, Cameron and Katie. The marriage, however, ended in 2000.

In that same year the Queen acknowledged Carol’s contribution to broadcasting by awarding her the MBE in the Birthday honours list.

Carol is quite a campaigner too, and has campaigned to get computers into hospitals for children, so that they don’t miss out on their education while they’re off sick, and is also outspoken on cleaning up the Internet.

She is Britain’s highest paid female TV presenter.

Carol now lives in Maidenhead with her mother, Jean, and her two children.
